In 2018, AFC Ann Arbor and Milk Means More teamed up with Lindsay Tarpley to launch a statewide program called ‘Community Kicks.’ The program is designed to reach kids who may not have had the opportunity to play soccer before or receive proper instruction, while introducing goal setting, confidence building and the importance of nutrition and exercise in overall wellness. The program partners with local feeding sites in communities like Ypsilanti, Portage, Lansing, Detroit and Muskegon.
After a very successful launch of the program in 2017, where coaches and players from AFC Ann Arbor visited each community once, the program expanded in 2018 to offer 4 clinics to each community, each Monday in the month of July for the entire month. This allowed the coaches to spend more time, give further instruction and develop skills and relationships with the youth. This was a significant step that succeeded which has laid a path to grow Community Kicks even further in 2020.
